Preparation for shooting for Sunday 24th and Monday 25th October 2010

We are prepared and ready for shooting and have made adjustements to times of shooting for each day. As a group we have learnt the controls of the camera and we have all become familar with the camera setup. We have split the shootings for 2 days and I have planned what we will shoot on both days different footage. I have started the storyboard and we have made a camera music treatment for the angles and shot. We will use this to make our detailed storyboard by drawing out each frame shot and explaining how it conveys meaning.

The risk assesment for our music video

The Risk Matrix is a useful tool in the assessment of the severity of overall risk. It is intended to allow the relationship between the likelihood of incident/injury occurring and the possible severity of outcome. By comparing these two factors against each other, a Risk Rating can be arrived at, employing a scale between ‘A’ (highest risk) and ‘E’ (lowest risk).

Risk Likely Rating, on a scale of ‘A’ to ‘E’ (‘A’ being the highest)

marketing aims for music video

Marketing Aims for Music Video

Target consumer: London youths 16-25, also targeting the US audience. We will have US codes and conventions as hip hop and rap originate from New York City, West Bronx.

Unique Selling Point: our artist is an ordinary London boy who just wants to succeed as he comes from the ghetto which will strongly relate to the youth of today as many are in the same position.

Attention/Awareness: We will make the video be attention seeking to the audience by undertaking the codes and conventions for the music video. This is where we will use different camera shots such as close ups, trombone shots, mid close ups, long shots. Also we will use effective locations that will match the genre of the music video.

Interest: We will insure that the video is interesting and eventful for our target consumers to grab the attention of the spectators. Also we would want the consumers to recognise the artist by promotion and product in order for national success.

Desire: My desire is to get the artist nationally known by demographics and by promoting his music through this music video, his mixtape and other tunes he has made. We hope to get him into an independent label as this is where he would want to get into and then build his way up into mainstream.

Action: action will cover movement of artist and his facial expressions.

Product: The product will consist of the completed music video and CD cover design for the target consumers.

Price: The music video will be free to consume and download on the internet.

Place: As a group, we have found our desired locations which are located in South Kilburn. The locations are a walkway around bushes, walkway through estate, dead end road, and the unique graffiti walls.

Promotion: We will promote this music video from the artist’s sites such as you tube links, facebook and my space.

Camera lesson exercise on 8.10.10

In the camera lesson today, we learn a few camera techniques and shots that would be very effective for our music video. We learnt about wide angle shot by putting the camera in focus. We learnt about a new type of shot called a trombone shot where we zoomed in while we pull out of the shot. We also learnt about white balance and the different effects it makes. We got a blank piece of paper to test the white balance to see the effects of it. The white balance would change colour balance. We zoom in and out with W and T. DB adds colour to the image. The shutter speed of the camera should be 1 over 50 which means there are 50 pieces of light that comes into the frame. F4 AND F8 are the normal settings for the focus of the camera. From this lesson today, we will do test shooting before shooting the video with the artist to have a feel and pratice of these camera shots and techniques that we have explored today.

different locations for the music video

We have looked at these different locations to use for our music video. These locations are seen as coventional to the rap genre we are looking at. The combinations of all the locations are all seen to be closed in and cramped. we want to make the artist feel like he is trapped and can't escape.

Sunday 3 October 2010

For the video- Pictures

I am going to take pictures of our artist at different locations. I will vary the shots from long shot, medium shot, close up shot, high angle shots and low angle shots.

When taking the different camera shots, I will focus in particular facial expressions and body language of the artist.

Split screen shots analysis

As a group, we have looked at a particular music video with the genre of rap and hip hop called Holla at Me by two well known american music artists called Chris Brown and Tyga. From looking at this music video, we saw an effective type of effect which is called a split screen. We would want to use this type of split scrren shot in our music video as we see that this would be a very effective shot to use in the music video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6suO7L6BPEc
This split screen is seen at 1 min 13 and we would like to use the effect of the screen changing from black to white to colour.

We want to use the start of the video as we want to make as the cuts and edits in this video will be very effective in our music video
